Job Description and Qualifications
Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., a world-leading industrial gases company, has an immediate opportunity for a PROJECT MANAGER at its Corporate Headquarters in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
The Project Manager will be a member of the Plant Projects Organization (PPO) within the Operations group located in Allentown, PA.  The PPO group manages the safe execution of capital projects, in operating plants and distribution terminals which Air Products owns and operates in the Americas.  The projects are typically small ($25K to $5MM) retrofits to operating plants.
  • You will be personally responsible for managing $5 - $10MM of capital projects.  The content of the projects that the group manages is quite diverse, involving all types of equipment and systems contained within an operating plant.  It is our goal to hire someone with a strong background in piping projects with detailed knowledge of piping, valves and pipe insulation systems who can add technical value to the projects that they handle as well as other projects managed by the group.
  • You will review Industrial Gas plant modifications requests to ensure they meet Air Products specifications and standards prior to the modifications being approved and executed.
  • As the Project Manager, you may grow into scheduling and assigning the pipe designer staff to the projects being designed and executed within the PPO group, based on skills, work load and project requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance for piping systems, valves, insulation systems and pipe design strategy.
  • You will be involved with demolition projects to ensure the safe removal of plants, equipment and systems at operating plants.
  • The ideal candidate will have an Engineering degree with 5 to 10 years of experience in the design and execution of mechanical projects.
  • Applicable practical experience in the management and execution of mechanical and piping projects would be considered in lieu of an engineering degree.
  • Responsible for all phases of project execution including scope development, cost estimating, equipment procurement, engineering, design, construction management and equipment commissioning.  A strong adherence to work process and safe work practices is a requirement.  The projects involve a high level of integration with existing plant operations and lend themselves to “hands-on” style with the candidate working in the field to resolve problems.
  • Have strong organizational and planning skills, good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Be knowledgeable with computer systems, SAP and CADD design software and systems.
  • A significant amount of travel (30%) to the plant sites is required.
